Since Councilmember Gajewski’s election to office, Rockville has won many national awards including being named by both Money and Forbes magazines as one of the best towns in America and honored as a finalist in the All America City competition. Rockville is also one of just a handful of small Cities with AAA (Prime) bond credit rating from all major rating agencies.

Councilmember Gajewski provided critical leadership in establishing the City Vision that puts Rockville forward as a “cultural destination.”

Thanks to Councilmember Gajewski’s advocacy, Verizon, which was kept out of the City by the previous administration, is now wiring the City with advanced FioS, which will finally compete with the presently available COMCAST service.

With Councilmember Gajewski’s support, the new refuse and recycling collection system is being modernized without any increase in fees.

Unlike many neighboring jurisdictions which are suffering from ever more frequent water main breaks, Rockville has embarked on a water pipe replacement project that will keep the water flowing and safe for years to come. Councilmember Gajewski provided important leadership on this issue.

Due to Councilmember Gajewski’s insistence, the recently adopted zoning ordinance will maintain the “hometown character” of Rockville while preserving property rights for all citizens.

Councilmember Gajewski provided leadership for a tax rate decrease for FY 2009 and voted for expanded homeowner tax credit for FY 2010

Councilmember Gajewski cast a swing vote to actually decrease the total City budget for FY 2010 by nearly $1 million.

Councilmember Gajewski was first to propose that the City stop paying millions of dollars to an outside law firm for legal services but instead bring the office of the City Attorney in house. As a result, the City Attorney is now an employee of the City, providing better services at a lower cost.

Shortly after taking office, Councilmember Gajewski established quarterly Townhall Meetings providing, for the first time, a meaningful forum for exchange of ideas between Rockville residents and an elected City official.

Councilmember Gajewski was a strong supporter of the now instituted “video on demand” of all Mayor and Council meetings and other important City meetings.

At the beginning of his term, Councilmember Gajewski proposed that the City Council adopt Rules of Procedure (modified Robert’s Rules of Order) for its meetings. Prior to Gajewski’s election the Council followed no identifiable rule-protocol.

Councilmember Gajewski believes that the work of the City Council should be done in full public view and has been a vocal opponent of unneeded closed Council sessions or “retreats.”
